My latest work strives to give body to what I like to call « the strength of softness ». Usually, we associate strong paintings with heavy color, contrasts, etc. I am trying to reach strength in my paintings through softness.
Naturally, in the process of painting, I discovered that there was something that I was constantly tracking down: the moment of apparition. The sense of something being there but out of reach, distanced, being there and not being there at the same time
The landscapes put into form are improbable ones, imagined, their elements being used in a more abstract way to evoke general things; a sense of sensuality, of solitude, of receptivity, of longing
I am very touched and influenced by the Chinese landscape painting tradition. The way they use the space, the emphasis put on emptiness, the evocative power which to me expresses a lot more, at least for what I am trying to grasp, than something which would be sharply defined.
